We have therefore found the attractions not to be missed, to give you the chance to fully experience the city but also to carve out some time for relaxation.

Basilica of San Petronio, 5 minutes walking distance

This is the main church of Bologna and thanks to its size is the sixth largest church in Europe, although it is still unfinished! Built as a spiritual place but commissioned by the City of Bologna, it is one of the few "lay" churches in the world. We have delved into its history right here on our website.

Neptune Fountain, 5 minutes walking distance

The Fountain of Neptune is a bronze art work that represents the theme of Neptune, particularly in vogue in the '500. If the Basilica of San Petronio was commissioned by the lay communal messengers, the Fountain of Neptune was instead built following the instructions of the Papacy, as a testament to the benevolence and good papal government of Pope Pio IV. Even in these small details we can see the contrast between Church and Lay State in the city of Bologna, a theme that will run throughout the history of the city.

The Asinelli Tower, 2 minutes walking distance

The Asinelli Tower is one of the universal symbols of the city and takes its name from the family that ordered its construction, the Family of the noble Gherardo Asinelli. It presents inside a staircase of 498 steps and it is still possible to visit it entirely, up to the roof.

A few steps from Hotel Corona D'Oro lies a small wonder, a hidden window that overlooks a glimpse of water and a small citadel similar to Venice, from which it takes its name. Often, in their haste, tourists do not notice this little window, painted tone on tone with the wall.
